How to increase virtual Memory

How to increase virtual Memory

If you want to increase the performance of your computer, than you should definitely increase your virtual memory of your PC. Now I am telling you how to adjust your virtual memory to increase the performance of your computer. Your virtual memory can adjust either a PC, Mac or a Linux based computer operating system. In this page you will find the quick some steps to adjust the virtual memory for increasing your computer performance.

There are 3 methods for increasing Virtual memory

Method 01 : For Microsoft Windows operating system like- XP, Vista and Windows 7

1. Click the start menu in windows XP, next to click the control panel, select system from the control panel. Now click on the performance button in the system menu.

2. Click the Advanced Settings Tab. Click the change button in the virtual memory section.

3. Now firstly you decide the amount of disk space you would like to allocate to the paging file. Windows XP recommended you to allocate 1.5 times your physical Random Access Memory - RAM. So,  if you have 2 GB RAM, your maximum paging file must be 3.00 MBs.

4. Now click on the start menu for Windows Vista.  Select the control panel and system maintenance and from there select the system.

5. Now select the Advanced System Settings in the left navigation panel. Chose the advanced tab. Now click the change button of the virtual memory section.
N/B: Select whether you want the system to control the paging file size or you may choose the customize of your setting. Windows recommended settings for your system will appear at the button of the dialog window.
6. For windows 7, Click start menu. Now right click on computer and choose properties. Click the next advanced system settings in the left menu.

7. Click the settings button in the performance section of the system properties. Click the advanced tab in the performance options dialog windows. Now click on change button in the section of virtual memory.
N/B: Select whether you want the system automatically manage the paging file size on if you want to customize the settings yourself. The window recommended settings will appear at the bottom of this dialog window.

Method 02 : For Mac Operating System X

1. Firstly open Terminal program, in here you will find the Utilities folder under the Applications folder.
2. Now turn off the swap file, type this command into the Terminal window: sudolauchcti unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
3. To reactivate the swap, Type this command in the terminal window: sudolaunchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
Choose the hard drive that you serve your virtual memory file. Up and down arrows will be appear that will allow you to adjust the amount of virtual memory as either move or less.

Method 03 : For Linux Operating System

1. Firstly back up any data that you want to keep re sizing, because partitions can cause data loss or corruption.Boot from the Live Cd, it needs to have gparted on it. It should detect that you have Linux installed and you will use the swap space. Open gparted and next click on the swap partition- Right click press swap-off. This dismounts swap so you increase the size of it.

2. Now you need to shrink partition, next to it by the same size that you are want to increase the swap partition. In my case i had 2GB RAM and 2GB Swap, I need 4GB swap, so, i reduce the partition next to the swap by 2GB. The allocated space should be next to the partition. Now click the partition and select re-size, include your un-allocated space. Now click swap-on-restart.

3. Now you have more swap.... Points to be noted....always have backup, not just when you are changing the system, don't delete the swap partition  to create  a new one so that everything work.  Thank You.
